NEW EQUIPMENT

For a complete list of Ted's equipment, click here.

Ted just received his new tenor sax, custom-made by Mike Manning (NY). It took about six months to make, but was worth the wait: the new sax has a rich, dark sound, and is very balanced, with an excellent altissimo register. The finish is brass (no lacquer), and has no high F# key.

Ted's switched from using his curved Yanagisawa soprano sax to an H. Couf "Superba." This model, manufactured in the 70s by Keilworth in Germany, was made famous by having been played by Grover Washington.

Ted's tenor mouthpiece, a Wolfe Tayne with an "AD" facing, was dropped on a concrete floor, causing the tip to be dented and chipped. Scott Shachter repaired the tip, and also made the mouthpiece more balanced. Scott is also working on Ted's old Wolfe Tayne (also an AD), the mouthpiece Ted bought when he was 17 years old, and used until he purchased the "new" Wolfe Tayne last year.
