60 Minutes - Excerpts
Earlier this year, 60 Minutes with Morley Safer produced a great piece following the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra to Cuba, where we did a week-long residency, playing concerts and teaching. It was a great experience, one I'll never forget. I think the whole 60 Minutes team did a remarkable job creating informative and soulful reporting. To see the complete show, Click this link.

Playing with Chick Corea
During a lunch break at rehearsals for concerts with Chick Corea, Chris Crenshaw caught a little informal jam with Chick and me, reading through some of his Children's Songs. These are great pieces. In fact Wynton arranged two of them for our concerts. I arranged two of my favorite Corea tunes: Tones for Joan's Bones and Windows. Chick was fantastic - so engaged, and engaging. One of our best concerts!

Apollo Nine
This was taped at a Jazz Composers Collective event a few years back. I think it was the CD release concert for "Rhyme and Reason" which featured a string quartet with a jazz quartet, and special guests Wynton Marsalis on trumpet and Miri Ben-Ari on violin, both playing inspired solos on this piece, called Apollo Nine. The rest of the band includes Joyce Hamman - violin, Ron Lawrence - viola, Tomas Ulrich - cello, Frank, Kimbrough - piano, Ben Allison - bass, Tim Horner - drums, and Eric Charlston - vibes and percussion.

Matt Wilson/Ted Nash Duo
This was the most fun I've ever had with my clothes on. Matt is such a creative person. We did skits, made carrot juice, ate cereal, marched, played Thelonious Monk, changed outfits, and had a faux-premier of "serious music." Karen Chester produced this concert at Merkin Hall.

Odeon in Brazil
My eclectic group Odeon played a couple nights in a club in Rio de Janeiro, and had a little time to visit Corcovado, Sugar Loaf, Ipanema, and had a few Caipirinhas. This was the first tour of many that were produced by Maristella Pupo. Since this maiden voyage, she has brought down many groups to play in many different settings.

JLCO with guest Ahmad Jamal
This concert was the opening for the 2008 season at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Ahmad Jamal and his great music were our guests. Over the years we have had such great guest artist, icons of the jazz world. I play a flute solo here, and quote happy birthday for someone in the band who was celebrating that day. Can't remember who.

Rubin Museum of Art
This trio gig with Frank Kimbrough and Rufus Reid was very relaxed, and lots of fun. First time we three played together. No rehearsal, just calling tunes. This clip features the performance of Monk's Green Chimneys. Frank Kimbrough is so slippery, and Rufus is downright funky!

Portrait in Seven Shades - Dali
This is from Portrait in Seven Shades, a piece commissioned by Wynton for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. This movement is inspired by the surrealist Salvador Dali. It''s in a surreal time signature of 13/8. Marcus Printup and I solo together, echoing, and dripping like melting clocks. The killing drum solo is by Ali Jackson.
